Why has my insurance requested Thermal Imaging?

Insurance companies are requesting pubs, restaurants, clubs, and sporting venues, to manufacture complete thermal imaging of their electrical boards within their operations to receive insurance or reduce premiums,

Thermal imaging can help locate electrical faults and problems before they cause a major failure such as a fire or loss of operations. Thermal Imaging is a special camera that detects infrared radiation and converts it into temperatures.

For insurance compliance, most insurance companies will accept only Certified & Qualified Thermographer inspections and reports, who have the correct training & experience to comply with insurance requirements.

When your insurance company requests Thermal Imaging of your electrical equipment, there are a few things that are required to ensure that you receive an insurance-compliant thermal scan, these include:

  • Licensed qualified minimum of Level 2 thermographer,

  • Insurance-compliant report that notes and details all thermal exceptions,

  • Detailed scope of works that includes location and description of on-site boards and equipment.

Electricians may offer to do your Thermal Imaging but, most don’t hold the minimum qualification requirements & are not been properly trained & certified. If any uncertified person does your inspections the company may ask for them to be re-done again by a Certified thermographer. Furthermore, many smaller and non-specialised companies may not produce reports that meet insurance company standards.

At CIRTA our certified thermographers do have the necessary qualifications & certifications required to carry out the scanning and prepare the required reports that are compliant. This ensures that all work completed is in line with insurance requirements to give our clients peace of mind.
